چکیده
background: single leg drop landing is one of the common sport activities that have greater likelihood of leading to traumatic oflower extremity. however, there is limited understanding of biomechanics of this maneuver. hence, this study aimed to compare the activities of lower limb muscles during pre- and post phases of single leg drop landing. methods: this semi-experimental research of 13 physical education male students was conducted in 2011. electromyogram activities of gluteus medius, biceps femoris, medial gastrocnemius, soleus and anterior tibialis muscles along with ground reaction forces were measured. subjects performed single-leg landing from a 0.3m height on to a force platform. landing motions were divided into two phases: 100 ms preceding ground contact and 100 ms after ground contact (absorption phase). analysis of variance and paired-samples t tests were conducted for the comparison of activity of muscles separately. in each phase and among phases respectively p≤0.05 was considered as statistical significant. findings: analysis of variance test showed significant differences in muscle activity in both phases (p≤0.001). paired-sample t test showed that the activities of gluteus medius, biceps femoris and anterior tibialis muscles were greater during absorption phase in comparsion to pre-landing phase (p≤0.05); however the activity of medial gastrocnemius muscle was greater during pre-landing phase in comparison to absorption phase (p≤0.001). conclusion: it seems that lower extremity by activation of medial gastrocnemius muscle before ground contact prepare to absorb forces during landing. according to type of landing used in the present study (stiff landing), plantar flexor muscles play key role in absorbing of ground reaction forces during single leg drop landing.

Electrical Activity of Selected Shank Muscles When Using Minimalist Shoes during Single-Leg Landing Task
Nowadays, light and minimal shoes have been used by athletes in various types of sports activities in order to be in a position close to barefoot position. But its effect on the electrical activity of the shank muscles is not well understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the electrical activity of selected shank muscles when using minimalist shoes, normal shoes and barefo...
متن کاملEffect of Ankle Brace on the Activity and Co-Contraction of Ankle Muscles During Single-Leg Landing
Objectives: The results of a few studies about the effects of ankle brace on muscles function during the performance of different tasks are contradictory. Moreover, the effect of brace on the co-contraction of ankle muscles is undiscovered. Therefore, the present study investigated the effect of brace usage on the ankle muscles activity and co-contraction during single-leg landing. Methods: Fi...

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the kinematic and kinetic variables, which predict anterior tibia shear force during single-leg landing in female athletes. Methods: Forty-three subjects (mean and standard deviation for age 21.12 ± 2.00 y, height 168.58 ± 7.62 cm, and weight 60.27 ± 7.80 kg) participated in this study. Kinematic and kinetic variables of lower extremity...

The Electromyographic Feedback and Feedforward Activity of Selected Lower Extremity Muscles During Toe-in Landing in Female Athletes
Background: Positioning the legs in performing spike technique significantly contributes to the development and prevention of lower limb injuries. The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the feedback and feedforward activaties of selected lower limb muscles during triple jump spike with and without toe-in landing in female volleyball players. Methods: In this controlled-laboratory stud...
متن کاملEffect of Foot Orthoses on the Timing of Lower Limb Muscles Activity during Walking in Older Adults
Introduction: As a person gets older, their gait patterns change and their ability to walk decreases. Orthoses are used to relieve musculoskeletal disorders, skeletal problems, disabilities, etc. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of orthoses on timing of lower limb muscles in the older adults during gait. Methods: The present study was a clinical trial. 14 females ...
